WHAT IS DAKAR ?

Delving into the heart of Dakar, the event unfolds across 14 days of adrenalinefueled exploration, including a welldeserved day of rest.

The Dakar is a rally raid, but first and foremost, it is an incomparable human adventure. Its history has been built in the world’s finest deserts with men and women from all horizons, taking on one of the hardest sporting challenges of our era.
The Dakar Rally or simply “The Dakar”, formerly known as the “Paris–Dakar Rally”, is an annual rally raid organised by the Amaury Sport Organisation. The Dakar race is one of the most popular rallies in the world. After the soccer World Cup, it is the second biggest event, as measured by the number of television watchers. During the past four years, the organization of this rally, has moved to Saudi Arabia. Every year the organization has to deal with many logistical issues, to transport everyone and everything (breathing or not), over more than 600,000 kilometers, including television equipment, hospitals, security, people, food, housing, motorbike malls, organization replacements, and so forth.
